The huge schools of shad will move back into the creeks where its warmer and the crappie will follow them. The Fall is when you see the largest schools of shad swimming around and you can see them swim right by your boat. The Fall bite is usually really good on Oologah. The crappie act like they haven't been fed in months, as they try to fatten up for winter and it also helps them get a jump start on making eggs for spring. I've had some of my best days in the Fall where the crappie bit all day long and I was able to catch them on jigs rather than minnows. I went out on Sunday and fought that 20 mph wind for 2 hours and caught 6 crappie and called it a day. I'm sure the bite will get better as the water cools down and the weather stabilizes. Just look for them in the same brush piles you normally fish and you should have some great fishing.
Excellent information, thank you very much Whisperer.

Fished Oologah Saturday afternoon from about 4 to 6:30pm and tried some different brush piles than the usual milk run stuff and ended up with 14 nice fat crappie. The fish are really starting to fatten up. Fished with minnows about 10 to 15ft deep, Bell Cove, Will Rogers Cove and north side of Kite Hill.
    Hey, tell me a story!

I saw that yesterday on 6's website. That is hilarious! I've been passing that thing going to and from Oologah since I was a little kid It was always funny to see how it had been painted. This has got to be the best!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Whassup?

I was out Saturday and found it a bit slow. Fishing minnows, caught our fish in shallow brush. Fish were real tight to the cover. Blue Creek. Never got a bite deep.

Went fishin today, thought it would be a good way to enjoy a vacation day. The first way I enjoyed it was by sleeping in. I got on the water at 10:00 and probably made my first mistake there. I bet I missed the best bite because the first 6 dips into the brush pile all produced some real good fish. I really thought I was in for an interesting day after that quick start. I decided not to run and gun today, I had a plan to just kick back, be lazy, and enjoy the day off and the perfect weather. The wind was light today and anybody that fishes Oologah regularly can appreciate that. I stuck with the plan and stayed in the general area I started in and ended up with a pretty good stringer. The best thing was, the hardest thing I did all day was get an anchor unstuck that had gotten hung up in the brush pile, followed by a double hookup on two different rods at the same time, both with good fish. I found the fish in 12 ft holding tight to brush. Tried some different depths but 12ft seemed to be the best depth. I ended the day with 16 keepers and had one that weighed 1.6 on my digital scales. Sure enjoyed my vacation day and the only regret was not getting up early and getting there at sunrise. I bet my stringer would've been quite a bit heavier if I had. Oh well, it was still sweet being lazy today, and since I'm on vacation all week I can go out and do it all over again.

Welcome! I don't get to the "other" side very often so maybe someone else will give you an answer. I fish Talala Creek about 90% of the time I'm out.

10401, some of the guys on here bank fish Blue creek quite a bit. If you go back in the thread from the 1st of the year till now, you'll find references of them catching them from the bank in Blue creek. If not, look further back in the Oologah thread. I know the information is in the Oologah thread and that's one of the reasons the thread is kept running continuously, so people can use the thread to help them catch fish. Hope this helps, welcome to the board, and good luck helping the kids catch some fish.
