I got word from a very credible source that the middle of next week they are going to shut the gate and continue to run 3 generators round the clock until further notice. I'm ready for some stability.

Fished Friday from 10-3 ended keeping 25 crappie. We caught several casting and dragging and pulling jigs in 7-9ft. Blk pink was the best color. EB

    Default couple of questions...

Does anyone know what the water quality is currently like in the Porum Landing - Brooken Cove area? I'm coming down mid-week to prep my RV for an upcoming trip and thought I would drag the boat down. It's not been in the water for months. I'll probably stay at Belle Starr for a day or so and go out in the late afternoon/evenings. I thought that might be a good time to explore that area since I don't normally go there.

2d question? Anyone ever tried blackened sand bass? Someone told me they liked them and I've never tried it. I like most other fish blackened so I might try a couple of filets for supper one day.

Sure is quiet on the forum.

Broken Cove and Dutchess creek clear faster than any area on the lake for clarity. However I do not know how clear it is today. I do not know if the courtesy dock at Broken Cove is intact and usable after the high water.

Blackened is my favorite way to enjoy anything with stripes ( maybe excluding skunks). I like to add a little honey towards the end when I can handle the resulting smoke in some way. Even better when you can use walleye, which is on my menu for tonight thanks to your reminder. IkenI, am sending you a pm on another topic.

Ike the water down towards the dam is still murky. I know over towards Purim landing it was still muddy 10 days ago. If your going to camp at Belle Star you can go over to the North Canadian Bridge and catch some big sandies and crappie. The water there will be 8 inch vis. The sandies are on the points of the rip rap where the current is in 8-10ft. The crappie will be on the banks where there isn't much current. They are also in 7-11ft. But the crappie will be right off the bottom. Use 2 jigs put a 1/4 and a 1/8 on and put them a foot off bottom. Ease down the rap .6-.8mph.

As far as cooking sandbass I have a friend who fillets them cuts every bit of red out then boils the fish in 7up. Then chills it, puts it on a cracker with cocktail sauce. Calls it "Redneck Cocktail" lol but says it's good. EB

EB- that's the recipe for Poor Mans Lobster! Skip the cocktail sauce and dip in melted garlic butter. I might add that to tonight's menu. Thanks, I had forgotten that!

Thanks, EB. That's what I'll do. That's the kind of info I was looking for. I'll probably only go out in the evenings.

My B-I-L cuts all the red out of sand bass and then fries them up and they are great tasting. I've eaten them fried for years. I just never liked cleaning them cause they tear my hands up. I think I'll blacken a couple tho and try that out.

Ledge it seems like the last 4 summers catching fish on Eufaula has been different. Had a trip from 3-8 this evening and yeah it was hot hot. We ended up with 40 big sandies and 20 crappie. It seemed like the bigger crappie didn't want to bite today. We caught lots of little ones. But guys there's lots of fish around the main lake bridges right now. Heard reports of guys catching good fish from 6 different bridges. EB
