I was able to get out for 3 hrs before dark yesterday ended up with 17 keepers but didnt catch them till late in the evening. I wanted to go through my thought process a little bit. When I first got on the water I was thinking about double dippin jigs along the rip rap because I have noticed signifigant current under the bridges. I started with 3inch washoppas fished about 50 yds with no bite. Then I decided to try some of my brushpiles, some were in 8-10ft some in 14-16ft. Started to get bit some, but the fish were small. So I ran to a bank with some bigger chunk rocks in 5-7ft some in 8-11ft and some in 13ft. I was casting and dragging this with a blk/chrt minnow mindr. I was getting bit but the fish were small. Then I decided to trow up shallow in 5ft and WHAM a fish around a pound. Ended up with 5 off this spot. Then I got to thinking, maybe those fish are on the rap just alot shallower than I thought, so I changed baits, I put minnow mindrs and both of my double dippin rods and put my baits right off the bottom in 7-8ft. The first fish I caught was over 1.50, these fish were hammering the bait but you had to be close to the bottom. I could drop my rod tip to the surface off the water and feel the bottom, so I was 6inch-1ft off the bottom. By this time I only had 1hr left to fish and probaly caught over 30 total double dippin. I thought I would share my thinking yesterday. Sometimes we know what pattern to fish just need to adjust a little bit to put 17 in the boat instead of 5. EB

EB, thanks for posting your thought process. It's good to have an insight into how you think about how to find the fish.

I was fishing my local lake last weekend and was dropping my bait to the bottom and slowly reeling it up and was getting bit. Fish were right off the bottom too.

Well I launched the boat yesterday evening around 5:40 and fished till 7:30 and had 21 keepers. Best 7 weighed 9.94. Double dippin in 7-8ft with bobby garland minnow mindrs. blk/chart and pump/chart on Crappie pro heads. These fish right now are relating heavly to the breakline. They were biting fast, probaly caught over 40 in 1hr 1/2. Lots of shad on the screen and flippin on top but most of the crappie are right off the bottom. EB

Due to the heat, I've stayed mostly inside all summer.........haven't wet a hook since May. But as we see milder days and a decrease in water temp, I'm getting back in the saddle. I sure have missed my fishing, but when its hot, I have no choice.....the heat will literally kill me. Watched one of my fishing buddies yesterday catch a few off the dock using jigs. He said some friends of his were catching them on minnows this weekend. I will probably hit the dock this evening and if I do any good, I will post some results.

Good luck Jim. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to put out some cedars at our dock if it doesn't rain all weekend.
