Gaines Creek has been good to me the last couple of times I've been down. I come down and stay in my trailer at Belle Starr for three or four days, once or twice a month. I always try to get a full day in at Gaines Creek as I really like it there (just a little far from where I stay.) The last couple of times I've caught quite a few smaller fun fish and enough keepers to make the drive worthwhile. My best luck has been in the creek channel for suspended fish, although they will move up on the trees ever so often. Last trip was especially good with one 14" and two just under 15". They are still there as I usually only keep 11-13" fish, occasionally a 10". My personal limit is 15 of that size and I usually don't fill it but always get enough for a couple meals. It's easy to keep enough in the freezer with just my wife and I. BTW, I've had better luck lately with BG minnows, smaller Slab Bandits and Thump Buddies (especially the Midnight Special and Swamp Thang.) It's not hot and heavy - have to spend most of a leisurely day there for what I get, but it's my favorite area to be anyway. Gonna go down again next week.

Wow your getting picky in your old age..lol..Fall fishing is a blast. If you fish wood fish the same cover you fish in the spring due to the crappie as the water temps cool off they will head for the same spots on the lake you caught them in the spring and be very hungrey. For me I will be on (ok here comes the ugly word) Ft Gibson or Tenkiller doing the samething I was doing in March and April. My favorite technique which is cast and drag thats what I will be doing and wearing the bark off the wood. The fish will move shallow......Ranger

Hey I don't mind it. Last year I was introduced to the big black slabs on Gibson and I am looking forward to it again this year. I was asking about the pattern at Eufaula to get an idea of the yearly cycle the crappie go thru, helps me fish better if I understand where they are coming from and where they are going. To be honest with you, if the water comes down this fall at Ft Gibson, when I am not bow hunting I will be there not Eufaula. Forgot to mention at the big E yesterday I caught one smallmouth and a 3.5 lb largemouth, both shallow chasing the shad late in the day.
Ranger at what water temp. do find crappie in the Fall and Spring cycle? Thanks
I start looking when the water drops into the mid 70's and when it's in the mid 60's it's should be on fire......Ranger

Leave for a mini vacation and hadn't fished for 10 days. Get all excited about getting back on the water and my fish have moved. Don't ask me where cause I have looked for them for 2 days now and they are no where to be found. Caught about 20 yesterday riggin minnows and mostly small. Today I caught about the same number dippin wood but had better fish. Not much to show for 30 gallons of boat gas. Gonna have to make the drive and head to Wister....Ranger
