Papascruggs thank you sir Im glad you enjoyed the show. EB
Stink, I'm off Friday....get ready we will eat breakfast and go find some crappie shallow. Brian is right on the money with the spawn running 2-3 weeks behind this year. With that many cold days it takes awhile to moderate. Plus the night temps need to come up more. Brian,...really enjoyed the show with you and Andy.
Just give me a call this evening after work Leland.
Fishers them crappie are just where you find em. When I said open water points I should of said points on the outside of coves in a creek. Does that sound better. Then headed back up into the coves and cut banks with cork n jig. Sorry for the confusion.......Ranger
Late Evening Report South End: I was late getting to my brush pile arrived around 7:00 am. Flipped a couple of males out of the water around that time. Across the cove, I saw another fisherman drag one to the bank. Myself, not using good judgement; stayed to the last minute as lighting was getting closer. Got a little scared, as I’m sure waving a 10’ graphite fly rod in the air was not a good idea at that time. After the thunder storm past the bite stopped for everyone in the area. The wind changed and was coming out of the east. Scientifically speaking “When the wind is from the east. The fish bite the least.” Cold front moved through and then the crappie moved out. Next question… is when to anticipate the crappie returning to the beach?
Watch out for this: Today while traveling today between McAlister and Atoka on Hwy 69. I counted 12 different police cars on the side of the highway that had people/vehicles pulled over with the red and blue lights turned on. This was about 10:00 am.
Would have posted earlier but have been cleaning and repairing fly reels this afternoon.
Scientifically speaking, wind out of the east, my rear. I love fishing an east wind! Your fish just went deeper is all. Keep searching and you'll figure out where they went. Cannot blame you at all for not wanting to wave the rod, nothing wrong with taking precautions. Welcome to Okie land Rick and the best of luck to you!
Just adding to law enforcement. . . I was stopped at the crowder boat ramp the other day by the highway patrol and they were doing boarding inspections. They were just warnings but I had 6 violations that would have cost 220 dollars if it was a ticket. Guess its time to get the old boat in compliance lol.
The world makes sense again, thanks Ranger. I went out again yesterday. Caught a lot of fish (maybe 50 or so) not many big females. Same places I have been fishing, mid lake coves and creeks mostly right on the bank. Last part of the day I moved out to the breaks off the spawning banks and tried to find more consistent big fish, didn't help.
Cpd21 and I went yesterday evening and caught 35 keepers from 5-dark. We were fishing 6-10 inches deep mostly with a jig and cork. WT were from 60-65, it seemed that the only thing to make a difference was the cove had to have good depth to it. EB
Fished with clients Tracy and Bob today. Fish were in 3' to 4' early with WT at 64 degrees. As the temps rose they moved into 6" to 1' of water. Method was single jig dipping wood and bushes. Big fish today was 1.86lb. Had the pleasure meeting coyote today (Kenny) on the water and at the ramp as well. Great guy as all the C.C members I have met......Ranger
Fished this pm from about 5:00 until 7:30. Covered allot of water wading in locations where we have been catching fish in the previous days. Obviously off. Caught one small male. This is around the Bug Tussel area. Measured the water temperature several inches below the surface with what I am sure a calibrated thermometer. The temperature of the water was a straight across 70˚ F. I am going to say with confidence the spawn is coming to an end in this area. Questioned other people and the same. Maybe one small male…..
Anybody know how the spawn is going on the north end of the lake?
Fished Eufala today for the first time today. Fished with my 10 year old and his buddy from his soccer team. We fished the creek to the east of Docks bait shop. Took a dirt road to the lake. Found a spot with several guys who were regulars and settled in. Fishing was slow for us. I caught too small ones and the boys zeroed but they had fun just being in nature. There were alot of nice folks there we chatted with. One group camped there last night and woke up fishing. Cant beat that and they had a nice basket of crappie. Nice place. Ready to go back. Soccer game in a few hours or we would still be there. Have a good weekend friends.
Fished all day yesterday without landing a single crappie, but went down to the dock right after sunrise and caught a really nice female using a jig. Weighed 1 pound and 7 oz. Didn't stay long, the bite was slow and I was still tired from Friday. I will try again right before dark. Yesterday it was slow for everyone I spoke with on the lake, just a few caught here and there.
Has anyone fished highway 31 Blue creek area? Too late for spawn in that area? Trying to head that way sometime later this week. TIA.
Fished Saturday and Sunday had 22 keepers Saturday and 60 keepers Sunday. We had flipped a cork both days with very little sucess, the fish have pulled off the bank in the Arrowhead area. We caught most of our fish double dippin rip rap in 6-12 fow a foot off the bottom. pump chart and lime chart was the best colors. WT ranged from 65-70 degrees. EB
We fished with Stink all day Friday, had 4 crappie. We fished all areas where we normally find them shallow. Not finding any fish in numbers,.....I personally think the lake rolled over? Fished Sunday after the storm passed at 9-A culvert area, minnows and jigs only had 3 keepers in 3 hours.
Leland, I fished with lights on the dock here at Arrowhead and caught around 60 before going home at 1AM. Most of them were dinks, but I ended up cleaning 18 the next day. A couple in the neighboring dock caught quite a few too, but only after dark. It made up for Friday and inspired me.........lol. Thanks again for taking me fishing, I enjoyed you and Sissy. You guys are special people in my book.
Spawn North End? YES
Spawn Elm/Ash/Blue Creek area? YES
Thanks, That's great news EB! I have a camping trip this weekend Ive had planned for a year now. We are heading to a cove on the north end, not far from the I40 bridge. We went last year in April and didn't do to well, so we planned it for may this year. Anyway I'll post how we do!
Good luck concrete!!! Hope yall slaughter them!
Brian,, when do you think they will pull up in the #9 area this year,, i have checked it off and on so far and all of the fish have been anywhere from 6-to even 15 fow ,, The fish in the elm/ash/blue creek area keep throwin me for a loop i will catch em good one day and the next day i cant even force feed them,, I think its just me but i am having an extremely hard time keeping tabs on these suckers this year,,one day they are there and the next day GONE , deep, shallow just VANISHED,,and that right there why i am in awe of how you continually and consistantly wear em out ,,when the fish do that to you do you just move to a complete different area of the lake or do you stay and grind it out?? :scratchhead :notworthy
The spawn is 96.75% over.
Ouch Rick wall, already!? That's not what I was wanting to hear!
I disagree
Hey guys first let me say I don't always catch them when I go, somedays no matter who you are you're not going to catch them. Now as for the spawn, the man that taught me about crappie fishing on Eufaula always his best the last week of April to the 3rd week in May. Depending on the weather, water clarity, and lake levels of course. During the spring we will have three phases of fish, pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn. So learn different techniques that help you catch these fish. If fish are on the bank the males will guard that nest until two things happen, either they finish spawning, or lowered lake levels run them out.
Usaully cold fronts will effect them too but they dont move far, Monday evening I had some buddies wading catching fish in 6inches-1ft of water, they fished two coves in 4 hrs and caught 40. Yesterday a buddy and I went wading, when we started it was 70 degrees, when we finished it was 50. It did not effect the bite at all, we still caught them. But we caught them in 2ft deep water. Couldnt get bit in that 1ft or less. Remember fish will move on you but never drastically, especially in a shallow area of the lake. I do wish we had 1 more foot of water to put alot more bushes in 1-3ft. Right now the lake is a lttle bit low. As for me fishing for fun I will be in my waders for the next 3 weeks ;) EB
I agree Eb next three wks if we're lucky 4! And 2ft is spot on
Oh yeah been good on 3in jigs and don't matter the color
Thank you Brian; Just to add to that the main lake areas sometimes will be last to spawn. I will also be wading but without waders,....I like to fell the temp and bottom contours.
Leland, you find em and give me a call, I picked up my old boat today and it will be ready to go this weekend.
Added 3 more nice crappie to the basket this morning, fished about half an hour. I'll catch a few more today, then clean them. Should have close to 20 when I clean later this evening. Bite wasn't as aggressive as yesterday, I suspect the cooler temps slowed them down a bit. Water is murky, temp is 62 and the wind wasn't bad. None were shallow this morning, all around 6 feet deep and hit green colored jigs with pink heads.
Got to the Lake and set up, then on the water about 10am. Caught 6 keepers in an hour and then my wife got to the trailer so I quit. They were all prespawn females. Guys on shore were catching dink males making nests. Double dipping jigs In 8-10' water in Arrowhead area.
Glad you got on some fish Ikeni!
Cleaned 16 Yday. Fished from 10 to 1 Was all on 1 stickup 18" to 3 ft deep. All but 2 were males Oakridge area
Well me and some buddies camped and fished a cove on the north end not far from the I40 bridge. We fished from 9:00 am Saturday untill 10:00 am Sunday. It was PERFECT fishing weather and that cove was PACKED with people fishing. The bank was just lined all the way with bobbers! It was quite a sight. The fishing wasnt real fast paced but steady. Everyone was catching fish shallow and close to the bank. My group was fishing 1-4 feet deep within 7 feet from the bank. I ended up cleaning 16 all females, my father in law cleaned 13 all females. Most were caught with minnows, but a few and the biggest were caught on black/pink slabslayers. Big fish of the trip was 2 lbs 2 oz.
2 lbs 2 oz is a hog! Wish they ran that big around my area.
