Lake Eufaula archives

Went wading on the North end of eufaula this morning, and caught 27. All were males in 2-3 fow. The bite was on from 7a-10a, but I fished until 1p. Their were some guys minnow fishing in deeper water catching some nice females. The biggest I had was 14", and the rest were 11-12". I lost a few bigger fish due to not getting a good hook set, but that's the way it goes. Some of the males were black and some were just starting to darken a bit. Water still at 64˚ F. I realize, on this web site; I was first tagged as “Guppy” then “Minnow”. However, I don’t have an over inflated ego and will answer to……Liar, Drunk or even Sheep F….er from Wyoming. Fished am and pm caught about 8 all males in the beds or real close “Wind was brutal”. Seeing big females caught around the culverts ≤ 2 lbs. - fish on the move, but slowly. With some stabilized weather everything should go big time. Helping out some socker doodles with fishing knots and lies. They are impressed with my fly fishing system and flies (getting more materials in from Baileys tomorrow). Actually hit one fish that took off like a permit in the muddy flats i.e. “it was a crappie”. But forgot to sharpen my hook and he/she escaped. Looks like Friday will be a prime day and hoping, I am not called back to work.

Well I head down to Eufaula yesterday to do some wading. Took about 2 hrs to finally find some fish. I was in the Bugtussel area. I ended up with only 11, but lost about 20. Was having a hard time getting a good hook set. The best bite for me came when the sun acyually came out. The bite was on during that time around 1:30-2:30.

Funny thing is, I see where others are in the same area, but yet I didn't see another soul wading at all. Guess I will have to try some new water in that area today. I will seek Lip out and move him over.

Hopefully I will get some pictures up of todays catch. Got to run got 1 1/4 hr drive ahead of me and getting a late start already.

A friend and I fished the Rock Creek area yesterday and caught 22. The largest was 13.75" the smallest 11". Sorry don't have scales, just a tape. Water was up some and temp at 61.

Just an update on the North end of Big E. Went early Saturday and knowing the lake would be overcrowded we just took it easy and anchored up at I-40. Battled thru big numbers of the 6" to 8" fish typical here but ended up taking home 56 decent (10"-13") fish. Last night I went jigging a creek off the bank from 5:30 - 7:00 and kept 9 of which 4 were females. Caught them in almost no water to 3' of water. All but one on, of course red-n-chartreuse Bobby Garland jigs

battled the wind yesterday and caught some nice slabs...all over a pound with the biggest just over 2 pounds and 15 inches long....was fishing minnows 3 to 6 feet and started catching as many catfish as crappie....woohoo...can you say fish fry!!!!

We went to the Gentry creek area today. We jig and corked one area and got out of the boat and waded in another area. The wind kept us pinned down to those two areas and we just kept moving from one to the other. We brought home 57 over 10 inches and half of them over 12. The males were in 6" of water to 2' of water and the females were in 2-6 fow. Our best color today was red/char, with several being caught on electric chicken and pearl/char. We had 2 identical females on at the same time, and they both were 14 inches long and weighed 1.97 lbs. Both were caught using a red/char jig set about 4' under a bobber. We also had 1.83 and 1.77 females and a 1.71 male. I caught a black nose crappie today also, only the 2nd one I have ever caught. Considering the wind I thought it was an excellent day of fishing.

On a side note I took a really good fisherman with me today. He is known as one of the better fisherman here on Oologah. He had never been on Eufaula lake until today. When we unloaded at Gentry creek he said I have never fished for crappie in this muddy of water. When we started wading and I told him where we going to fish he said no way are the crappie going to be that shallow. After missing the first 2 or 3 that bit him in 6" of water he was a believer and caught on quickly. He called several people on the way home and told them he couldn't believe how shallow and muddy the water was we were catching them. He is now hooked on the shallow doodlesocking at Eufaula and is skipping out on a turkey hunt to go with me again tomorrow.

LIP RIPPER and I took a friend of mine wade fishing for the first time today. He is hooked. He felt the thump! He is so impressed that I think we have him ready to get his first long pole. Leland you may need to get a slabstick equivalent ready for Ed. You all can read about it on Sunday in the Daily Oklahoman. It will be the featured story in the Outdoor Column with Ed Godfrey.

Where is a good area to wade fish if one doesnt have a boat?
