Way to go. Nice mess of Crappies on a good looking fly. I fly fish for Trout below the Lake Tenkiller dam and have caught quite a few Crappies on Olive Woolly Buggers. I may need to try fishing for Crappies on Lake Tenkiller with a flyrod and see what happens.
Remember !!!! Crappies spawn in deeper water, when the water is clear. Maybe 6’ to 12’ deep. My technique is for muddy water where crappies spawn in shallow water. Haven’t figured out how to fish my fly deep. Tried to make it work on Boysen Reservoir last year in Wyoming, but method wouldn’t work. That’s why I came here “the muddy water”.
Well I could try your flyfishing technique in the backwater areas off the Arkansas River Navigation System. The water there is murky/muddy most of the year.
Keep your hook sharp in case "OL BIG" shows up
Sometimes when fishing the river, "OL BIG" shows up in the form of a nice sized Blue Cat, which is not a bad thing.
You may need to wade deep and fast.
Actually wading in the river is not a good thing. You never know when the Corp of Engineers is going to increase the flow of water from the dams. I fish from a boat, but I understand what your saying. I've hooked into several big fish that swam out to deep water and was never able to turn there heads.
