Fished Eufaula for the first time in several years. The wife and I fished Juniper Point yesterday from about 9:00 to 7:30. Got about 35 bites, but put 14 in the basket. The big one (1.8) was by my wife as usual. A brown/orange hair jig worked best, along with a strange combo of blue/yellow. Dark blue/light blue/white also worked. Black/pink, black/chartreuse, and other combos including either chartreuse or pink did not work. We got hit from the first cast (small bobber w/ 3.5 ft. setting) until 7:00. Most of the time we would only get one or two bites, then wait fifteen-twenty minutes. Minnow fishermen were doing about the same. Slept in the van, and hoped to get some (fish that is) this morning, but it was colder and we didn't get a bump. Still nice to get out and enjoy the deer and other animals and have hot dogs and s'mores.

Fished at our dock on Saturday evening from 5:30 - 7:30. Water temp was 60. Fishing with minnows about 8' in 20 fow. Only threw back 1 and cleaned 28 nice ones. Twice I caught 2 at a time -- that's always a lot of fun. Some people were fishing from the bank and never got a bite -- very frustrating for them.

Nice to put your handle together with a face, Toon. In case you felt sorry for the poor bank fishermen, you could always invite one of them to fish with you on your dock (particularly if I happen to be standing there with a sad look on my face).:biggrin
Ahhh! They'll be on the bank very soon, and we'll all be getting the big'uns. Keep posting.

It was nice to meet you Toon, I'm sorry I didn't have time to come over and visit for a little while. Maybe next time, good luck.

Jim, it was nice to meet you as well. We are down just about every weekend so stop on by for a visit. As soon as I get this winter's project done at the trailer, I'll be spending more time down at the dock - replacing the walkway again.

Toon, you might start thinking about renaming that "winter project" the 2014 summer project if you don't have it wrapped up by now! and maybe just sliding the scale down to 2014 walkway winter project. I mean the fishing is getting hot, and you will be even pinched more on time! haha

There will be NO SUMMER PROJECTS -- that's when the Admiral and I spend our time on booze cruises on the pontoon boat. I only have a couple of weekends left on my current project and if I can sneak down in the evening for a couple of hours and catch the same as I did this past Saturday, the freezer will be filled up again soon. Since it's just the 2 of us, I don't put a lot of filets in each ziplock before putting them in the freezer. I'm still using the same minnows that I bought at the beginning of December. I bought a pound from the little store in Crowder and I have a box that my dad built many years ago that we tie off to a post in the dock. I need to add a weight to it soon to get it to sink lower to cooler waters though. But it's worked great so far over the winter.
But the walkway project will have to be done soon. We put down some cheap plywood last year that we knew wouldn't last. I was hoping it would last a little longer than it has, but it is all peeling layer by layer. My neighbor has some sections from a bowling alley that he remodeled several years ago that we are going to use as the walkway -- they are already cut to 3' wide by 12' long sections. He's got them at his shop where he's sanding the top layer to rough it up a bit and then applying a surface to make them not slippery. He's had these sections laying out by his shop for 4 years and no warping or rotting so we think they'll work perfect for the walkway.
