Not sure what the temp was in the boathouse. I saw 50 up in the creek and searched pretty hard but not a bump.

According to channel 10 weather, water temp has been 50 for past several days. They give the lake info on the weather daily.

Went back out yesterday. Water still muddy, temp ranging from 48 on main lake to 51 in back of coves. Found some crappie in 20 fow on brush but could not produce a bite.
This is the longest I have ever seen Texoma stay muddy. Hopefully she will clear up in a few weeks.

Thanks for the update DW, I haven't been able to get out due to some construction at home but, hope to get it finished in a couple more days and get back on the water very soon.

Watching the news be it channel 10 or 12 I have noticed a pattern over the last 11 or so years that their account of water temperature and what any of the depth finders I have used is usually different by several degrees. This is of course just my opinion which doesn't carry much value. Currently if I go early both of my temperature gauges show in the area of 46 degrees (surface). If I fish very long it will reach 51 or 52. These high winds and warm temperatures warm the water quickly. Those observations are in what I call Geezer Land. Water temperatures will vary across a lake this size. As far as catching crappie go I have not recently caught a fish in less than 29' of water. One day it will be mostly males the next day it will be mostly females. I have not caught large numbers but I can't complain about the size of the fish. After reading the previous post I will try shallower water today.

Wrangler, I agree with your observation. My HDS's typically read the same temp and it is always a few degrees different than what they show on tv. I have no idea where the tv guys get their information but, suspect is is the official temp. But, not knowing where that reading comes from, the only assumption I can make is that it is consistently the same exact place all the time. Could be from deeper in the lake or surface, no idea. A few degrees difference isn't going to make a huge difference. Going by the 'official' temp give a pretty good reference point of the trending water temp and that seems to me to be more important that anything else.
I checked my weather station at 4 am and it was showing 65 degrees! Amazing for this time of year. If the night temps remain high the lake temp should be rising when you look at the high temps in the 70's, close to 80. I'm thinking if this holds we will have a very early spawn. But, we'll likely get out late freeze, as always only lasting a day or two which won't affect the water temp very much or for very long. just my 2 cents worth.

The shallow pattern did not work for me. I tried several places across the 6 miles of the lake I usually fish. At times I saw a 53 degree surface temperature but not a bite for me in shallows. Checking my records for past years I have noticed that we have had warmer late winters before and I did not note fish spawning more than 3 weeks earlier at the most. It has been my experience that it is not water temperature alone that triggers the spawn but a combination of water temperature and hours of daylight but that is just my own observations which may or may not be correct. I have a fairly strong passion for crappie fishing enough so to keep records and pay close attention to patterns. I must admit though that because of employment responsibilities I have not fished cold water crappie that much in Texoma until now. That being said I am going to figure it out. If you are interested in taking on another fishing buddy I would consider it an honor to fish with another crappie enthusiast. Possibly we could learn something from each other. Name: IMG_0958.jpg
