I'm long overdue for an update on Texoma. Been out a few times since my last post. Last week Sonnyboy and I had 39 total fish with 16 keepers and yesterday we went back out after lunch (and after he cleaned the deer he got yesterday morning) and we had a total of 31 fish with 14 keepers. We are fishing Little Glasses area on brushpiles (mostly Bois'darc we put out last winter). Water temp was about 71 and most fish caught on the bottom in 12 to 20' of water. Best jig still seems to be Jigum's Jigs Halo Magic in 1/8 oz size. Sonnyboy is making a similar jig that works well too.
Lake level is about 2 1/2' low even after the rain we got last weekend. Water is clear. We are seeing a LOT of shad balls and still catching a lot of dinks. A striper guide friend of Sonnyboy's says they are catching zero stripers on multiple trips. But, an interesting comment is that when throwing a net for shad (to use for striper baid) they are hauling in a lot
of small crappie in what they thought were shad balls! So, now I'm wondering if some of what I think are shad are actually this years crappie hatch? I sure hope so as this bodes well for the years ahead.
There seems to be very little pressure on the crappie from other fishermen. I don't get out as much as I'd like but, we rarely, if ever see anyone else fishing for crappie!
