    Default Lake Carl Blackwell 3-15-14

Paige is probably the most diligent fishermen on this lake with the Crappie intelligence to go along with it! today (3-15-14) the dock is packed with people taking out very few keepers but limits of the "endless"numbers of small fish one or two limits is what I have seen today, the bite seems to be around six foot while your bait is on the "fall" outside on the north side of the dock. and to the west along the rocks if you just want to catch fish. any B.G. bait with a silver shad matching hue.

from your Kayak once the spawn hits try fishing any of the brush in the blackjack cove area, there are a few bald cypress trees in that cove that will offer spawning habitat that I usually hit with my 15 foot jigging rod from the bank. As for now with the fish still "deep" the cut a large boat must go though to pass the Crappie dock is a viable option for right now.

I too, was not clear on the meaning of Blackdog's post. It could have been about the keeping of small fish or the thought of a geezer like me trying to climb out on the rocks, or something that just escapes me.
Took kids and grandkids out yesterday. Lots of fish and lots of fun. The eleven-year-old caught his crappie on the red-black-orange hair jig that he designed and tied the night before. Threw back a lot of smaller fish, but still had about 80 keepers. Son-in-law lost a 14-15 incher at the surface. Hair, marabou, and plastic all worked. Lots of small bass on the rocks.

is it better in the morning or evening out there? Are they still catching on the dock ? I want to fish but can't decide in going out this evening or early morning . I should have taken the kids out there yesterday like big sky . We went to bass pro they had a swimming pool set up with catfish in it for kids to catch and take pictures of their catch .

    Sparky,
I've only seen two mornings that didn't produce fairly well, although it hasn't been quite as good lately and the fish are smaller on average. Afternoons have been hit and miss. Thursday afternoon was the slowest I've seen. My wife and I caught 14 and one bass. But we have caught up to 130 on earlier afternoons.
The biggest difference is the crowd. One morning, there were 23 people inside at 4:00 A.M. Several mornings, it has been total elbow-to-elbow on the inside and nearly elbow to elbow on the outside. The smaller fish are eating shad very close to the rocks, and a number of people have scrambled down on the rocks to dip fish or use small bobbers.
    Hope this helps some.
ps We took the grandkids to Bass Pro this afternoon, and they had a lot of fun.

Fished Blackwell this morning (0645-0915) and tore up the fish. Tons and tons of smaller fish. I fished along the rocks throwing a single 1/16th ounce hook with a Sunrise Mo Glo Jig coated in SlabSlobber. Would cast parallel to the bank about 6 to 7 foot off the rocks and reel back slowly and BAM!!! There were several times that you would catch 8 or 10 in a row. Fishing for 2.5 hours and catching fish the whole time only produced 24 keepers of 10" or better. Also caught one Channel cat that had belly so full it looked like it was gonna pop, and 3 LMB that were small. Had line broke off 3 times from what I assume was prob a Saugeye, once i felt the bite, i went to set hook and line was cut clean. Not that many people out there, and reports were that the guys in the fish house were also catching a lot of fish this morning.
