With the lake way up and now dropping like a rock decided to try drifting for bluecat this morning. Haven't been on the water in over a week so didn't know what to expect. Found a lot of fish in 27 to 30 fow. Ended up catching 17 blues with the biggest weighing 31 lbs. Kept 5 for the freezer. Unbelievable day with the lake as muddy as it is. Drifting whole shad with sides cut open. Fun day.
Tried to drift yesterday morning before football games started. Hardly any wind couldn't drift much. A lot of people on the water for this time of year. Did manage to get my biggest blue of the year drifting in the boat. He weighed 43 lbs. Made the trip worth it. Water temp has dropped to 72 deg.Waiting on it to stabilize and gonna get back on the crappie.
Lake is rising again. Never got below 7 ft high. New inflow up to 37000 cf. Came up almost 2 ft since yesterday. Doesn't look good anytime soon. May be winter before lake stabilizes. Tough year.
Water is now dropping like a rock. This is usually my favorite time to crappie fish in between deer hunting. Catch some big crappie in the fall. May be better than spring. Shad start migrating up the creeks and crappie follow. If the rain holds off for a week or so there may be some hope yet if they don't close the gates. Still 9 ft high but dropping a foot a day.
Fellas find another lake. 6 Inches of rain in Kaw City last night. 7 1/2 inches total so far the last 2 days. Inflow went above 40,000 cf and they dropped the release way down because of downstream flooding. Calling for another 1 to 3 inches tonight. Will let you know when it gets better. May be a while.
Redge I tried to get loose and come down this year but just couldn't make it work. Know you guys are gonna have a great time and you have a crowd. Good to see so many folks coming. Hope everyone catches fish.
