My youngest son and I ran into Ranger and Charlie last Tuesday and would have matched their numbers but I had to knock off early to save my marriage; it was my wife's birthday. As it was we kept 12 with the top 2 weighing 1:12 and 1:10. Normally our early bite is a solid peck or thump but that morning I caught 4 good blacks in 4 casts that, as Ranger once said, felt like a leaf was on the jig. We call those " hitchhikers" just to have a quick common reference to a bite that we all experience most times out. My 10 grandkids have been here the past few days and the bamboo condos I planted in my pond finally started producing some black crappie for them. Usually my pond crappie run consistently about 12 oz. but these were all smaller. I may have made my bushes too thick as I have since read that the larger fish appreciate wider spacing of the stalks. If you have an opinion on this I would love an excuse to leave them alone but if I need to I will pull em up and prune to a better habitat. I have transferred several big pigs to this pond and I would like to be able to drop in on them and say hi. Right now I can't figure out where they live. What do you think? Fewer bamboo stalks per bucket?
