That tournament messes up my plans for Saturday. Don't want to put up with even more boats on the water. Hefner has really good fishing reports right now, maybe I'll head there. MUCH closer than T-Bird, too. Or maybe this is a sign I should finally try out Arcadia.

Very nice saugeye! I have caught quiet a few this year in the 18-19 inch range. The largest one I've caught so far this year was 20.5 inches

Went out this evening in the yak and caught 3 keeper crappie 11.5-12inches in 3 feet of water. Also caught countless dinks as well as a 16 inch saugeye. Decent for a couple hours, had a fun time doing some catching first time I have been out in about a week or so.

How's the best way (opinion) to cook those saugeye? I've never had it

I fry em up in louisiana brand cornmeal and add some cayenne pepper to the mix. Mmm mmm gooood.

Can't go wrong frying them like bigbone said. They also make a mean fish taco if you'd rather bake them. The meat is super flakey and mild like walleye though so they're pretty damn tasty all by themselves too.

There is literally no bad way to cook any of the " eyes". One of our favorites is to sprinkle with jerk seasoning and place fillets over thin sliced oranges. Slather with apricot jam and sprinkle craisins and chopped walnuts over them. A few pats of butter and they are ready to cover and bake or broil a little further from the heat source to keep the sugars from burning. We eat so much fried fish that we' re always looking for a change and my Canada fishing buddy found this one at a fancy restaurant in Minneapolis. Liked it so much he went to the kitchen and the chef showed him how it was done. We have even slow sautéed this recipe when we couldn't get the oven to work. Tried it with crappie but didn't really work- needs a firmer fish to survive the process,

with the meat draga
I took the new Huckabee rod to Thunderbird this morning for a tryout. Needless to say, I'm really pleased with it. I was what I call strolling. Slow double dipping. I had it in one hand and my proven Pro Angler 10' in the other. They are both great rods but the meat draga handles the heavier weight much better. It became quite noticeable when the wind came up some. I caught fish from 7 am to noon when I packed it in.
I got sidetracked a little at first. Wasn't 100 yards from the launch ramp when all the sand bass in the world began surfacing around me. I cast to them for about an hour with a Slab Bandit on a spinning rod catching almost one each cast. They were on the small side but great fun. Finally decided it was time to go look for Crappie. I found them in a couple of spots I like to fish. Wasn't hot and heavy but was very consistent all morning. Almost all dinks but I managed a few keepers (which I didn't keep) plus a couple of decent largemouth and one channel cat that went about 3 lbs. All were caught in my strolling mode. I caught the cat on the Pro Angler and it lifted him into the boat just fine. I'm sure the Huckabee would have been better at it. I thought the meat draga might get tiring as it's heavier than the Pro Angler but it balanced well with a Quantum Code Red reel and I never got tired. It is quite sensitive so I didn't have any problem feeling the dinks with a light bite. I see a couple of 11 footers in the future for strolling and using the draga for pitching, flipping and dipping. Gonna be a drain on my retirement income for awhile. Great rod!
I saw a couple of Yaks in the distance. Was that you, bigBone? Sure miss my Native Watercraft but it had to go due to my arthritis. The Lund barely works at my age.
