Ok guys. The fishing was hot tonight at the Bird. Wish I could have been by boat but couldn't find a ride with anyone. I hit the dam about halfway down from 7:15 pm - 8:45 pm. The wind had died down and it was a beautiful sunset behind the clouds. I only threw a double jig setup which consisted of two 1/16 oz red jig sickle hooks baited with Bobby Garland 2.25" Minnow Mind'r in black/chartreuse color dipped in Slab Slobber under a bobber. I would cast parallel to the bank about 5' - 15' out and retrieve slowly with my 8' Pro Angler Tackle rod and Crappie Maxx reel. I fished the same two jigs and baits until it got dark and my hooks had the red paint taken off and the bottom Minnow Mind'r looked sad. 1st cast landed me a sand bass on the top jig and a 10" male crappie on the bottom jig. It was on after that. Every cast had a hit or two at least. When the night was over I had landed 12 male crappies black in color and 10 sand bass. I had 5 crappies shake the hook at my feet before I could get to them and I don't know how many I lost further out retrieving. All crappie were 8-10" and I kept 6. I drove over to the Little Axe dock afterwards in hopes of snagging some more but it was too crowded for me and I drove on. Maybe I can find the females next time.
