I believe you live out that way near EF. Have you tried fishing it in the past week?
I am curious how extensive the damage was and I guess the only way to really know is to trying fishing it. I was thinking of trying this week so I would know for sure. If it truly killed 50% of the fish, it will probably be years before it fully recovers.
I fished a few hours in an Ohio trib in N.KY this morning. Algae is still there. It is getting a bit better but its still not too good. I caught a few crappie and a nice hybrid. Crappie are still on the small side. However, I don't think it will be long before crappie fishing is really good in the creeks. Guy who runs the ramp said that the Fish&Wildlife were electofishing this week and they showed him pictures of bunches of 14-15" crappie coming from 3 foot of water in shaded brush. So, maybe they're there now, but I couldn't catch them today.
It's been hit or miss up this way. I went Monday and caught mostly dinks but my brother-in-law had 26 keepers Tuesday. Same thing here find the shady spots in the morning.
I live approximately 8 minutes and 27 seconds from the launch ramp. (at the dam)
I actually stopped by there a little bit ago and it doesn't seem like it got any worse than what I saw on Sat & Sunday. Since I was there I threw a jig around for about 30 or 45 minutes. I wasn't expecting much but I had a bunch of hits on a twister tail. I switched to jig and cork and caught a warmouth sunfish right away. I think that's what was hitting the twister tail. I changed spot a few times and finally caught a black crappie about 9" or so. I had a few more hits and left. Honestly I think everything will be alright fishing wise but we won't know for sure until we get a few guys out and get a few reports. I will say it still smells pretty bad it the wind blows just right. That smell is what made me leave.
While fishing I did see lot's of algae floating by.
