Been a while since I've posted.. I finally made it up to CJ on 7/20. Having not been up there all year I decided to just troll so I could cover water and locate fish for my next trip. So, I marked several locations that were different from last year. I ran several colors and action cranks as well as varied speed from 1.0 to 2.3 on the I-pilot. I was on the water for about 4 hours in total. The water had a foul aroma. I'm guessing algae. We caught 16 crappies 2 white bass and 3 whisker dogs. None of the crappies met my boats 10 1/4" limit so they were returned. Large cranks were not the ticket. And believe it or not the smallest/cheapest crankbait I own was the winner. An Arkie crappie crank that sells at Wally World for $2.36. The color was red craw. Once I developed this little pattern,we switched all of the poles to that color. I checked depth and realized the larger ladies were suspended at 16' in 20-23' of water. 14 of the 16 crappies came to the boat in the last 20 minutes of the trip. Moral of the story is it took me way too long to find an open water pattern! I'll be back soon! This lake mystifies me. And I do have one question????? Does the DNR still stock CJ with walleye fingerlings? Y'all take care.
