Intimidator...what was the variety of tomato plans you used?
I thought I wrote it down last year and now I can't find it. I liked the size of those tomatoes.

Better Boys....I like a Balance between Meat and juice, they are Fantastic for slicing, chili, and for Salsa, etc....plus, I haven't had any tomato diseases in 10 years.
If you grow them like me, you have to make sure your fertilizer has Calcium, or you need to supplement Calcium, so you don't get blossom end rot...they like their Calcium!
During Winter I dump bone meal in the barrels with my Fertilizer, and use water soluble Calcium once or twice a week when I water, and I have Zero issues.

Thanks I thought that Better Boys were what you used. Yeah, I'm getting the tomatoes out of the ground this year.

Fished the marina today from 1230-1630. Didn't catch squat. Couple others were out there as well and it didn't appear they were having much more success than I was. The one gentleman caught a few small gills off the bottom but that was about it. I was busy testing out my new deeper fish finder and I was having a difficult time marking fish. I'm not sure if it was something to do with the docks or what. I think the problem was any fish that were around were holding tight against the bottom and blended in the with "bottom" sonar layer. Oh well. I used jigs tipped with Berkely power wigglers. Anyone have better luck?

    Water temp: 32F
    Air Temp: 44F
    Ice: 1-1.5" clear
    Winds: Calm
    Skies: Overcast

    WELCOME...and Thanks for the Report.

Don't feel bad about the slow day....Believe it or not, but this is the New Norm for the Marina....with no cover and the heavy pressure throughout the year, a few aquarium gills or crappie is about all that's left. If you get better Ice you have to get out on the lake!

It's really a shame but easy to see why it happened...a few fish will find their way in during the spawns, but so many fish have been taken out of the loop, that the Marina is not imprinted in their travels.
Catches during the last couple spawns and summers have been way down also! All the cover put in was Christmas Trees, which are now all gone....

The Cover Projects brought life to the Marina and the fishing was fantastic, but like anything else, people took advantage and destroyed the cover and acted like idiots...the Cover group spent a lot of time, money, and hard work to help the Marina, but when you watch people fist-fight, cussing at others, kicking kids and handicap people out of prime areas, and dragging cover out of the water because they lost a lure, enough was enough!
Maybe when everyone quits fishing in the marina for a few years, we may try again!

I feel for the guys that like to ice fish, but it was "Springfield's Finest" who ruined it for everyone!

Yep....Calcium is key to preventing (BER). Save your egg shells, put them in the oven or BBQ on 200 just until they start to turn brown. Crumble them up then put them into a coffee grinder until they are powder. Put 1 teaspoon of powdered Calcium in a cup. Mix in 2 teaspoons of vinegar and mix together. This will start to bubble and foam up. When the mixture completely stops bubbling the vinegar has neutralized the Calcium and the Calcium has neutralized the vinegar.

Work the neutralized mixture into the soil around the roots on your tomato plant........wha la.....no blossom end rot

Hey by the way, this year I'm growing a Better Boy Brandywine Hybrid. The tomato will have higher yields like the Better Boy but the taste profile of the Brandywine. I'll be happy share them in the Summer.
