So, how do we get a load of iron wood ? BTW, while the majority of the construction materials used in the ships of Nelson`s "wooden walls of England" were indeed oak, the lion`s share of the framing and keel of HMS VICTORY and her sister 100 gun `ship of the line` classes were in fact Brazilian IRON WOOD bought from their Portuguese allies and crafted with extreme difficulty by the ship yards of the Royal Navy. We have ironwood here in oklahoma. We have the hop hornbeam kind. Cuts about the same as Osage orange with a chainsaw when it's green. Haven't even tried to cut it when dry.
In my area it grows about as big as a dogwood, 25' high or so. I have used it for cover, it has branches like a persimmon. Just the right amount of branches for bigger fish 10+" or bigger. It is not protected just a normal tree for my area, if you know what your looking for.
