So, how do we get a load of iron wood ? BTW, while the majority of the construction materials used in the ships of Nelson`s "wooden walls of England" were indeed oak, the lion`s share of the framing and keel of HMS VICTORY and her sister 100 gun `ship of the line` classes were in fact Brazilian IRON WOOD bought from their Portuguese allies and crafted with extreme difficulty by the ship yards of the Royal Navy. When these canvas powered `battleships` were eventually stricken and sold for scrap their framing was VERY desired for use in new construction as apparently it is rather water resistant...
