I guess instead of mounting screws for the transducer tracker marine decided to drill out big holes in the boat.
You ought to put an 18-20" long by 3-4 inch wafer board on the transom using the existing holes with bolts that fit, and mount the transducer to the wafer board. That way, you can put the transducer whereever it gets the best picture and move it if necessary without drilling more holes in the boat.....

my boat has a similar idea.....It has 2 metal plates of the same size....one on top of the other.....take the top plate off and attach your ducer....the botom plate stays on the boat....no drilling into the boat when I finally save enough change for a HDS unit (have the plates on both sides of the boat)...mount the bottom plates one time to the boat....the are held together by screws in each corner....if need be can make a new top plate to drill more holes in.....

It's a deal but then he'll have to teach me how to catch those little buggers to. I think Tbone is actually the 1st guy to tell me to buy the 8 instead of the 7. I'm glad I did, those soft keys are a great advantage.

Tbone said he knew someone, who knew someone and I think it was their friends 2nd cousin who had one....along with about 20 other folks on the electronics board. Like everyone else said, screen size was important. The soft keys were just a plus that came with the 8 or 10.
