There is a learning curve with both the 14 ft and 16 ft. I have guided with both and it seems either way I go I still have to help them for the first couple of hours. Every single trip gets better and better as the days goes on because there learning and catching more fish. For women and older men the 14 ft is probably the better pole but I prefer the 16 ft pole in most every situation. I am a firm believer in the fact that fish know that boat is there. The further away we can get the better. How much weight your going to put on the pole decides what kind of pole imo. Once you bog down a pole with weight it will take its sensitivity away. Some poles hold the weight better than others. I hope this helps. By the way, the 14 ft bnm pro staff pole is likely the best trolling pole ever made. It will come as close to satisfying all these elements as any other rod. Good luck
