Like G said, use steel wool scuff up the rod finish. Plastic paint won't stay on well if you don't.

Another voice for painting your tips. Painted a set of tips about 5 years ago. Have not broken a tip yet. Scuffed tips with steel wool. Painted with florescent yellow Krylon for plastic.

It works better if you spray on a light coat of white and let dry and then spray on your fluorescent color.

I have a tendency to over do things at times, I scuff and paint with flat white, then the Floro color of choice. Let dry a couple of days then hit with a clear sealer. Seems the Floro colors fade pretty good if no clear. I have some Yellow, green and orange. For my eyes I see the orange better.
