    Default Converting to 24 volts

I am not very good at electrical things but I would like to convert my 12volt G3 to a 24 volt. About to buy new I Pilot trolling motor and depth finder combos. A friend says that it's as easy as just buying a second Battery and tray and just connecting them together with jumper wires. Is this really all there is to it?

Pretty much so. On 24 the 2 batteries are hooked up in series.

If you go with 24 volts, you will need a separate 12 volt battery for the main motor and your electronics.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

you may want to check the size wire that goes to the trolling motor. may need a larger size to work properly with 24v..

Guys correct me if I've been told wrong....changing from 12v to 24v doesn't give you more TIME, just adds power to the TM. Yes/no??

Actually you can run 12v of the hot and ground from 1 battery in a 24v system

24 can give you both. I'm a good example. I upgraded my old 12 v, 45lb thrust motor guide with a 24v, 80 lb thrust Terrova.

I don't have to run the Terrova at full throttle all the time...in fact, I RARELY ever use the full 80 lbs of thrust.

If I run it at 45 lbs of thrust i have way more run time than the old 12v system had.

If I need more power I can hammer on with way more power than the old 45 lb thrust motor could do.

It's not an either/or situation when you power up...you can have both more power and longer run times.

A lot of times I'll go to the lake for the weekend and camp. Theres no way to charge my batteries for two days...and I haven't run out of juice on the 24v system yet. I can't say the same for my old 12v setup.

24 volt will draw roughly half the amps of 12 volt at the same rate of demand
