The spindle does have the flat side to it. That's where the "D" shaped locking washer with the bendable ears should have been on there between the flat washer and the nut. There was none on the drivers side where the bearing busted. There was one on the other side, but the ears that hold the nut weren't bent down.
It still makes me wonder why I busted the outer bearing the same way 3 yrs ago on the same spindle. If I remember right, there was a castle nut and cotter pin holding the nut that time.
