I use a 7'6' Ugly Stik Striper rod in medium light action. Lets that crank wobble real nice and has plenty of back bone for if and when that slimer smacks it!

I may just try the old bass rods I have, then search Wally World for some ugly sticks. Thanks for the input

Ugly Stiks are tough nuggets. The only rods I found undamaged after the tornado were 3 Ugly Stiks. I found the butts sticking out from underneath a wall. Grabbed them and pulled'em out, with just a couple bent guides. It impressed me.

Yep, one of mine is an Ugly stick. Never cared for it as the tip was a bit whippy... Works great for cranking though.

    Default 6' rod for pulling.

I use a Trolling Pole from Cabelas called a Whoopin Stick. They have models specifically for Trolling. I think Ugly Stick makes them. You can catch em on sale for around 20 bux. They're whippy like Carl said but I've been pulling with them for 4-5 years, and they will work with the planer boards too.

I haven't tried them in my trash compactor like Ugly Sticks commercial used to show.
