    Default Chasing Three Pound Fish

I want a three lb.+ fish for the wall, bad. Big fish so far was 2 lb. 6 oz. I know what I want it to look like, I know where it's going on the wall, and I think I know what kind of driftwood I want to use.

Here's the question for Big 4 fishermen.

1- Is it just a numbers game? Catch enough fish and you're eventually going to catch some really big ones, or is it technique? Are bigger fish harder to catch because they're that much smarter or are they harder to catch because they're not that many of them?

2- How many three lbers come around? How many fish do you think you catch before you catch a BIG one?

Its luck, I come down for MS crappie camp fished at Sardis on Wed afternoon for awhile because didn't know that the wind would be on Nadar, no fish. Thursday fished at nadar in the wind at the wrong place on the lake, no fish. Friday morning went up to Choktow caught my first crappie on Nadar 3.3 lbs. Caught several more in the 2 -2.5 lb range after that but it was just putting the bait in front of that one big fish out in the middle of nowhere with no structure in sight.

Well, luck plays a part, but homework helps to..... Time, location, season..... You can be the greatest fisherman in the world, and if you fish a lake with no 3 pounders I can just about guarantee you will NOT catch one. On the other hand, fish a lake with a higher proportion of 3 pound fish, and you odds increase directly. I think your best odds are probably on Grenada just before the spawn, but I have been wrong before........(more than once!)

I agree with what you say and after I put my post up I thought I should have said also that it is not just luck but knowledge of where you are fishing plays a big part of it also. The guys in the crappie masters tournament it wasn't just luck that produced those 20lb stringers but years of knowledge.

Best way to catch a 3lber, is not to fish with me....
But really, you have to put the right bait in front of the right fish. so lots of skill and a little luck to boot.

Get a set of scales that are wrong and bingo got you a 3lber.But really ,3lbers are not that rare if you fish the big 4 alot in the spring. Now the elusive 4lber that's what I want, probably never happen.
