some things an old man ponders on
Remember when mom would cut eggs, chicken and spread butter with the same knife on the same cutting board with no bleach? And nobody got food poisoning. Amazing. Lunch was wrapped in wax paper, put in a brown bag, not ice packed coolers at $15.99 a pop. Nobody got e.coli. Again, amazing.
Sneakers were Converse hi-tops at $4.25 a pair with no air cushions and built in light reflectors that cost as much as one years college tuition. Can't remember any injuries, but we must have had some since they tell us we're "much" safer now. We got our butts beat at school for messin up, but most of us grew up respecting our elders and honoring rules of life.
We had 30 plus kids in a class room and everybody learned to read and write and a little math, and spelled most words correct with out spell check? Funny that.....
We prayed in school, sang the national anthem, and after school detention caught all sorts of attention at home. Ouch!!!!!
I don't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations, but we must have been. And, where is the broom handle and soda caps, and a good game of stick ball....OUTSIDE!! How bout get the gang together for a game of kick the can???? Somebody bring the can.....
We played King of the Hill on a gravel pile left by a construction company and when we got scratched up some, mom got the iodine, douched us down, and sent us back for more. Now its a trip to the emergency room, ten day of antibiotics, and a call to the lawyer to sue that mean old company that left those rock in such a tempting place. (folks got way too much free time on their hands)
We never needed anger management classes or group therapy. If somebody bullied you, you met em after school, kicked their butt, or got yours kicked, and were good friends for life. Simple, uncomplicated, and final....in less than 10 minutes. Ahhhhh, the good old days when you could 'fix' things.
We had colored TV....two colors...black and white.
Prozac.....must have been a pro named Zac that played third base for the Cardinals?????
Good Lord, this cabin fever......come on spring!!!
