Question about 2-stroke

The last time I ran my Yamaha 25hp 2-stroke was August. Gas tank is empty and I've had motor cover on it since then. I didn't do anything to the motor before winter so wanted to check and see if there's anything I should do before cranking. I know I should have done something before it got cold, but wasn't able to. Thanks.

Just hope you let your motor all the way down before it froze. As long as tank was dry and you ran it out of fuel in the engine you should be fine. Fill tank , add stabill or seafoam after you make sure foot didnt freeze!

Drain the bowl on the carb. And while the drain plug is open, pump some fresh gas through it to flush out any leftover fuel from the winterization. Most people don't drain the bowl on the carb after running the fuel out, and the left over fuel in the bowl is the first thing through the carb and jets. It takes pressure from the bubble to push all the fuel out of the bowl and into the carb, but when most folks unplug the fuel line from the engine, and choke out as much fuel through the carb as they can, they still leave some leftover fuel in the bowl, because they think the choke pulled it all out. Just a precaution to a carb cleaning.

Don't know if this really does any good but one thing I used to do when having one stored for awhile is after cleaning out old fuel, take out plugs pump up fuel bulb and roll it over with starter to try to get a little fuel and lube on pistons before firing up.

Alright, now for another dumb question, how do I tell if the foot froze?

Turn the prop in neutral. I've never worried about that myself, and have never had any problems. I own 25-30 boats at a time at the shop, and leave the engines on the transom savers all year long. If you have a seal leaking and water inside the lower unit housing, I guess it might freeze if it were full of water opposed to lower unit fluid, which is 80/90 hypoid gear oil, same oil as in the rear end of your vehicle basically.
