Most people don't drain the bowl on the carb after running the fuel out, and the left over fuel in the bowl is the first thing through the carb and jets. It takes pressure from the bubble to push all the fuel out of the bowl and into the carb, but when most folks unplug the fuel line from the engine, and choke out as much fuel through the carb as they can, they still leave some leftover fuel in the bowl, because they think the choke pulled it all out. Just a precaution to a carb cleaning.

Don't know if this really does any good but one thing I used to do when having one stored for awhile is after cleaning out old fuel, take out plugs pump up fuel bulb and roll it over with starter to try to get a little fuel and lube on pistons before firing up.
