My biggest problem is going slow enough. How much thrust did the ole Johnson/ evinrude motors put out? Not much more than 30 and they were the thing on 18 ft glass boats in the day.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The sheep live in fear of the wolf but in the end it's the shepherd that eats them.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang and

30lb is plenty plus you said that it has a 9 1/2 hp johnson thats plenty for creek jumping and sloughs fishing.
Finding parts for the old Johnson may be a probem dunno
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Don get the 30. I have a 32 I used for a long time on that 16ft alumacraft bass I used to fish out of. Slow speed is on lower motor is what you need. On high still got plenty of power with that little boat. Main thing is getting a good battery.
