Thread: humminbird help

Ok I installed an inline fuse and changed the fuse to a 5 amp(smallest I could get my hands on). I checked all the connections and found one that I was not happy with so I rewired it. Turned low battery alarm off and restored defaults. I checked the volts and I am only getting 9.9 volts and I charged my battery for 2 days before I began this process. I looked it up and humminbird recommends at least 10 volts. I am not going to be able to try it on the water until maybe Friday so I will let y'all know what it does then. Do I need to get another battery?

5 amp is enough fuse. Low voltage is the problem. They don't want to run under 10v. They try to conserve enough voltage to still crank your engine. Definitely new battery time!!!! Get a GOOD one. With your electronics, live wells running, and cranking the engine, it's best to get the best one you can afford with the most cold cranking amps. Something over 1000 CCA.

Factory calls for 3 amp. Why not use what they say? How much extra juice will be OK before something bad happens?5 amp allows 66% more than is recommended.

Well gomer that's all I could get my hands on at the time I had it out working on it. I have the unit running directly to the battery with nothing else running off that battery. That's right, this one janky depth finder has its own brand new 100 dollar marine battery. It's getting 12.2 volts now. But, after I put the cords back in there little box that the unit slides into the depth started blinking again. I pushed them into the unit better and it quick blinking. Amazing, all this time spent being furious with this machine and the cords were not engaged good enough.

Get your hands on the 6.49 software too. Email humminbird Greg to get your hands on it. Seems like it is the best update so far on the 998. Last good update humminbird put out for them
