Used to take my old Mother-in-law shopping. I always noticed the prices you were talking about. Felt like it was ripping off old people who would buy the smaller volume, because they larger one's would go bad before they finished them. Also, noticed prices tend to be higher in poorer parts of town. Transportation can be limited for poorer/older people and they can't really shop around. So they stick it to them. Just my opinion.

My experience has been the higher prices in poorer markets is to offset higher theft. Not corporate greed.

It cost more time, labor, and materials to fill twice as many small jars as it does a big one. The jelly don't cost jack compared to the labor, shipping AND the cost of twice as many of the jars and the lids!!!!!!. :-)

I never thought about theft. I realized that it takes more time and material to pack the smaller sizes, just figure those containers are smaller and should cost less than the big ones. This will get some responses, I'm sure, but I drink Coor's light mostly.

At Walmart, if you check the price per ounce, the 24 pack of the 8 ounce can's is by far the cheapest. That is one item I'm glad they charge less for the smaller package. Works good for me and the wife, she usually drinks 1 and I drink 2. But it blows the theory of costing more for packaging. Only one example. But I bet more people check that next time they buy beer.
