Used to take my old Mother-in-law shopping. I always noticed the prices you were talking about. Felt like it was ripping off old people who would buy the smaller volume, because they larger one's would go bad before they finished them. Also, noticed prices tend to be higher in poorer parts of town. Transportation can be limited for poorer/older people and they can't really shop around. So they stick it to them. Just my opinion.
