    Default Spider rigging question

Gonna fish some next week at mom's and gonna spider rig. The lake I will be fishing has mostly the multi spined black crappie in it. Question is, do you do anything different when black crappie is the target, use minners or just jigs???

I would fish as usual jigs or minnows or both....but I think I would target shallower water......and the black crappie relate to wood more also
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Black crappie will hit much smaller jigs than whites. They feed on insects in tight cover a lot. If you're going to the clear water lake I'm thinking about, you may try fishing a small jig tipped with a nibble under a small cork and cast past cover, then slowly reel it up to the cover. They spook easily.

Be amazed how small of a bait a 2.5 lbs black crappie will thump. 1/64th and 1/32 with a #6 and #4 hook is used around here on black crappie all the time. Of course, those MS black crappie we caught last week inhaled those huge minners just fine and they weren't even big enough to keep! Use what you got, but smaller is good especially in clear waters.
