He was running shallow, like 8 foot. Boards allowed him to get em out away fromt the boat and run em shallow like that. Fishing in 13/14 foot of water.

The Flicker Shad's, the Planer Boards, the 1mph Speed, the Switching from Braid to Mono, the Sizes of the Flicker Shads, the Colors of the Bait, and The Distance from the Boat, were ALL integral pieces of the puzzle. Being smart enough To Figure ALL OF That Out is why they're the champions. It ain't just pulling a bait down the lake!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, they also used Salmo Cranks, AND they new about the Exclusive colors that each company like BPS, Cabelas, Scheels, and Mills Fleet Farms have. You can get the Flicker Shad Exclusive colors on The Next Bite website.

I've been using those baits for 10 years, but no way could I have put that much info together. These guys are PROS!!!!!!

Check out the CM Winners technique!!! It's explained here in walleye terms, but applies to all predatory game fish species. The baits were changed by the winning teams for the size, depth, and conditions of the Crappie bite !!!!

Time of year and conditions have changed. Read above article. These guys were SLOW Trolling. Not what we call slow trolling in the South, which to us is spider rigging.

The 4th place team did what we call power trolling, which is pushing jigs and minnow rigs with 11/2 to 3oz weight at around 1mph.

The common factor for these three teams was the reaction bite at the 1mph speed.

BRM is right on everything except it was 3rd place doing the power pushing. 4th was a GA team that was pushing/slow trolling/spiderriging like us and 85% of the rest of us. 2 other GA teams longlined jigs and were in top 15 I believe. One I know was 11th.

Bottom line is some folks went outside the box and made it pay. We hopefully learned a lot about fall fishing for white crappie during extreme water fluctuation. I wasn't able to keep up with website info for lake levels but I know what I saw from water lines on trees after the 3.95 inches of rain Tuesday.

I have turned my whole thinking upside down and inside out after the past week and a long 8 hour ride home of all the things I should have done. Gut wrenching after having 11.5 to 12.5 lbs and 7+ fish on both Weds and Thurs to only weigh 4 fish in 2 days Fri and Sat. I am humbled.

I am proud that some big dang fish and some of 4th places fish came on baits I made.

5th place team fished double minnow rig and there top hook was 6 inches below the water. I saw crappie chasing shad right up to the top and he said he saw the same thing. He changed his depth and I didn't. His name is Jim and he is a member of this site. Maybe he will enlighten us. Think his name is something like seejimfish
