Default any plumbers here? Need advice.

i am remodeling a bathroom. as i was pulling out the old vanity it caught the sink drain pipe going into the wall and broke it. i was thinking just get a smaller pipe that will fit inside the two pieces and splice them together. that will decrease my drain area but its just soap and water going down the hole. is this an acceptable repair?

While doing restaurant repair service years ago a cook asked if I could fix a stove pipe at her house so the city would turn the gas on for the winter. At her house I pull the attic stairs down and she goes up first to show me what needs repaired. She steps on the sheet rock between joist. I'm thinking, Oh No. She doesn't go anywhere. But she was about 4' 6" and about the size of my arm after having 3 kids.

I'm no plumber, bout all I no are the two basic things u have to no.
but, I had this happen to me and what I did was cut a bigger hole n the wall, cut the T out, replace it with another one, glue a short pipe on the top of the T and insert a made for this rubber boot. The top is just for vent and will work good. As far as I no, there is no easy way to repair the glued in drain coming out of the existing T.

It looks like it broke outside of fitting. I would take a sawzall and carefully make two cuts in broke off pipe on top and bottom. Then use a screw driver and hammer to remover old pipe from fitting socket. You should be able to glue a new pipe in its place

What E Z said. You will never find a piece of pipe that will fit tight enough inside the other. It shouldn't be very hard to repair, just make your hole large enough to work with. The rubber boot EZ was speaking of is called a fernco coupling, their is also another brand called a no-hub clamp.

That's my second thought but if it is glued doesn't that make it VERY DIFFICULT to remove the two old pieces. Don't wanna break the big vent/drain pipe in the wall.

This is a good idea in my view. However, be sure the pipe you are trying to get out, doesn't fall in. This could lead to much bigger problems for the whole house.

What size pipe is it? 1 1/2" I'm thinking.
