Don't worry about steering.Lock it straight and steer with the trolling motor.Get the impeller changed before you run it...it WILL break apart and end up in expensive places.I would be very leery of a tech that said run a thirty-plus year old rubber impeller. If your main problem with trolling with your 60 is over speed have you considered cutting down an old/cheap prop?I know a troll plate is also an option but cutting down a prop would have to work.Just cut 1/2 in off till you get the speed you want.Only drawback would be if you had a bunch of water to cover to get to your fish.

He is changing out the water pump impellar. Told me after thinking a bit more that it just needs to happen.

As far as steering I was wondering about locking the steering on the 6 and using the big motor as a rudder. Dont need or want to turn on a dime just wide sweeping turns. Using the trolling motor kind of is not in the plans. Sitting on the front casting chair using my foot for 6-8 hours a day doesn't work for me. Things got squirrelly when I tried that.

If its been sitting still for that long I would go ahead and replace the impellar, (water pump). Jmo
