I've cleaned 3 that had a worm like parasite in the meat. I cut it out, bag the fillets, cook them when I'm ready.
The worm is rolled up in a ring, when unrolled it's over an inch long, 1/16 to 3/32 dia., like a small red wiggler. Hard to the touch but I was wearing rubber gloves.
I wonder how many are ate by people that scale and gut their catch?
FLESH worms, they live in the meat.

I have found similar parasitic worms in lots of bass in my lake in Alabama. It's a very weedy with shallow creeks. I have found a few in crappie too during the spawn when they're in the weeds. I think those parasites are completely harmless. I always cut them out eat the fish anyway. I always chase the bites of fish with cold beer too, just to be sure.

The only one I have ever seen was in a fish from Washington . But I think hot grease will kill it all .

The only way they will hurt you is if you eat them raw. Fish needs to be frozen for at least 3 days at zero before eating raw.

No worm sushi for me. A little off topic but is the crappie in your profile picture like 8 lbs? I have a 3 lber on my wall and it looks pathetic compared to that. It didn't have the worms though. Haha
