Some were burial mounds, others were ceremonial. I'm sure they all were used as high ground during floods. The one GDG is showing is at Nanih Waiya, and is considered the mother mound and origins of the Choctaw Tribe. It is only a few hundred yards from Nanih Waiya Creek which is the head waters if the Pearl River. It happens to be where I learned to Feesh at as a little feeshrboy!
