Im strictly a single pole man. But, I dont think you can over pressure crappie on our big reservoirs or wipe em out the way the current reg's are written. I guess I could be wrong. Those rascals reproduce in huge numbers! If you troll, bank, wade or single pole...just get out there and have fun! Lifes to short to sweat the details!

Well, I must disagree with you on a couple of points, Gravedigger. Although the Big 4 are located here in Mississippi, they are not the states resources. MDWFP does manage the fisheries. However these lakes were built by the US government using tax revenue from every state. And are maintained with US tax dollars, not just MS funds. The state benefits from the flood control provided by the dams. This helps the entire economy. Non-resident anglers spend a lot more money to fish in this great state than residents. Think how much they contribute to the economy around these lakes. As far as single pole versus spider riggers goes. That's hogwash! If someone doesn't want to invest in the equipment to troll, fine. That's their choice. But they shouldn't criticize those that do. Or try to make every body else fish their chosen method. And they shouldn't be jealous of someone that catches a limit in less time because they use more poles. And yes, a limit is a limit. The only criteria is that it must be legal. This is 2013. Nothing is the same as it was 10 years ago. This includes fishing. The changes you see coming to Sardis have nothing to do, IMO, with anyone taking advantage of the resource. Last year several people set up a howl to lower the length limit back to 10 inches on the Bid 4. In first response to that we got the "Boat limit". Now look at the howl that's going on over the 11 inch 15 fish
There didn't appear to be anything wrong with the fishery but enough ruckus was raised so the MDWFP is making needed changes. There will be just as many folks unhappy now as them. MDWFP is in a no win situation.

I know what your saying jigflinger was kinda useing some what ifs and not trying to get everyone having to fish the same way.I'm not a trophy fisherman and that classifacation of our lakes(trophy crappie lakes) probley has more to do with the pressure than anything. The thing's I posted were in noway ment to bash or condem anyone's way of fishing just way's to lower pressure.Like I said I could go with lake limit be it 15 on Sardis or 20 on the others on 12in. fish with only 1 over whatever is cosidered trophy size.Do you think people would come from all over if they could only keep 1 big fish a day and the rest had to be 12in.?Also would like to hear from some out of state folk's on what yall's thought's are if the role's were reversed and this huge influx was hitting yall's back yard lake.I can promise there are good folk's everywhere but some of you guy's or someone yall know would be hollering about it not in a good way.

I agree with you grave digger on the pressure of trolling in the last 5 years its gone crazy. There are more trollers than single pole fishermen. Trollers don't catch fish the boat does just like a trotline for catfish vs one pole fishing on the bottom. Anybody can pull a crankbait or push or pull minnows it's just a moving trotline that's it and that's why it has exploded plus its year round. I can only speak for one lake and that's sardis the fish are strong in numbers here watch these tournament weigh ins and keep up with what you catch every trip. I haven't seen a decline in fish at all I've seen them get bigger so there holding there own with all the pressure. But these lake do need to change a bit and 15 is great. Who can complain about 15 crappie averaging 1-2 pound each. They need to do one more thing in my opinion and that's change the daily limit transportation to 2 instead of 7. That would help out a lot. They done something good though. Glad it's sardis only that will relive pressure just from sardis. I talk to some guys in tn and they hate it the 15 rule. There going to butla and Enid for the 20 and the 5 pole limit as well.

I'm an "out of stater" (though as mentioned these are Federally funded lakes, so my taxes pay for them same as yours), and I'd still go fish if there was a ZERO limit, but I must be different. I get more enjoyment from fishing, having a good time and doing it in good company more than what I catch/numbers. I've been down here (MS) since the last week of November and have not caught a limit of fish once, but I've spent a fair bit of money here (including my $50 NR License), and met a whole bunch of nice folks, some of who I hope to have as lifelong friends.

So I guess I should be upset?

Sorry.....just ain't feelin' it, and will be back next year and hope to see alot of the same folks.

Why should I care who goes to Indiana and fishes as long as they do it legally?

Where is this hooey about 7 limits daily coming from? Certainly not from the Regulations. On page 44 of the Mississippi Outdoor Digest, it states, (Quote: No person shall transport more that seven daily limits of game fish for each licensed or exempt angler in the vehicle). That is a far cry from seven limits daily. If it was seven limits daily a feller would have to be one heck of a fisherman. I love to fish, but that would wear me to a frazzle. And considering that some people go to fish camps during the spring and stay for a week or more it sounds reasonable to me. As far as non-residents are concerned, they are far outnumbered by resident anglers. Mr. Ron Garavelli and his staff are doing an excellent job of managing the fisheries. He and his staff are professionals, trained in fish management. Any one of them has probably forgotten more than all of us computer biologists will ever know. That's why I say leave it to people who know.

Iam going to explain this to you one more time you can haul 7 daily limits per angler on any given day of the week do you understand there is 7 days in a week which means you can haul 7 daily limits per angler 7 days a week. You can't catch 7 daily limits and keep them in a day nor can you haul 7 daily limits a day that isn't your catch. Now that would make it hard for a game warden to figure out who caught who's fish. My point on this one subject is I wish they would change it to 2 daily limits. Because they have no idea if checked if they actually caught all those fish or if there just transporting other anglers catch. Glad I got to respond to this before this thread gets closed like the last time we were having this conversation. Maybe I need a friend to beam me up like you did.

hotrod1, you are confusing yourself. You say that you can haul 7 daily limits a day out. Then you say there are 7 days in a week. You are correct about the number of days in a week. Then you say you can't catch 7 daily limits in a day. If you can't catch 7 daily limits in a day, then how in blazes can you transport 7 limits out every day? You must catch 7 daily limits each day in order to transport 7 daily limits a day. Now I do not doubt that some folks keep more than the law allows. But what you suggest wouldn't have any affect on those folks. Poachers do not abide by the same rules as us non-poachers. The regs don't day transport daily. The regs say transport 7 daily limits. Where are you reading this transport daily crap?
