Thread: Sardis changes

Well yeah or nah ? I figure the ten inche rule will get the amatuers off the water a lot quicker and leave the big fish alone . Same way with no length limit on my dink hole . Let them catch a cooler full of the small fish and go home . I'm going to be choosey and so are most of ya'll . All i here is how many minners ya'll feeding them to catch 4 or 5 keepers . The keepers ain't got a chance wit hall them short fish . At barnett they will catch a cooler full of small fish and go home (maybe ) . But the numbers are still there . I know i am just a beginner in this crappie fishing sport but . They are coming anyway , why not let them catch a limit of short fish . Just saying .

9We felt the same way a few years ago when Truman lake went from 30 to a 15 limit and 9" length, we figured them city boys wouldn't show up for 15...... we were wrong, more pressure than ever, but that may be due to the numbers of population wanting to fish, hardly ever keep over 8 myself and want the 10 1/2" when I do, would like to see a 10/10 rule myself, but I don't meat harvest myself, prefer to hunt for the big ones and release after photo, like a deer hunter wanting a big rack..... but I don't shoot my crappie when he is big, only with the Kodak....good luck on the new reg........

The only folks we can control what they do and how they do it is ourself . What they want by doing this only they know . We shall see .

Okay boys this is my first picture post but below should be a picture from the late fifties of my Dad who had taken a neighbor fishing at Sardis. I think the limit was fifty and their wasn't much measuring going on back then. You may not be able to see them due to the size of the print but several of the fish are grown. I think all we need is some high water every year or two like they had every year back then and we will have plenty of fish and you won't have to worry about the size on the Big 4

I want everyone to know the man on the right took the time to take me fishing,hunting and camping. This was one of the best men I've ever known.

Awesome pic! The difference is they keep the lakes a lot lower now and a lot of the fish get sucked out. There is also alot more pressure on the lakes now and people are using 4 poles when they used to use one wooden pole. With that being said I think the fish will take care of themselves, you will never catch them all out. The core lakes will never get overpopulated because they suck them out every winter. If they want to try and manage it to be a trophy lake they need to reduce the pole limit like Grenada. I'm ok with the ten inch length but do not really think it will affect much more than freezer space. Jmo

If I read the release right, this is going to be a trial for 2013 to see if the lake can support the 10 inchers being being caught in volumes that they are going to be caught. If the samplings prove to show that the lake cannot support it, 2014 will see a return to the 12 inch, 20 fish limit....From what my neighbor and I and my brother in law and I caught at Sardis last year, limiting out during the spawn should not take long at at all. I bet my neighbor and I caught 40 each off one cedar tree lying in the water and they were all 10-11 1/2 inch fish with the exception of 2 keeper 12's for each of us...It seemed as if almost every crappie we caught were in this range so there should be a lot of 12 inch and better fish in Sardis this year...I would not be suprised if the GW's are not more strict with measuring the catch at 10 than they were at 12. One gent at the boat ramp was all shook up because the GW measured his fish and he measured each 12 inch fish at least 5 or 6 times...I would not put one in the livewell that isn't at least 10 1/2 inches. The last time we went back in September, the GW was at the ramp and never looked at our fish...or our license...they were sitting at the ramp waiting on duck hunters to come in...so...my guess is 2013 will be an interesting year on Sardis..
