On the little Red river below Greers ferry dam (Trout waters) use to be a bald eagle that would take a fish off the flat end of a boat paddle!!!!!

I was working in the Aleutian Islands many years ago where the temp stays between 33 and 38 degrees bout year around. Being that cold and wind 40mph + caused me to have on a parka with my furry hood on. Saved my scalp. Didn't know it, but got too close to a nest and got attacked by one. She got her claws in the hood and I fell down. Couple friends came running and finally scared it away. I have 8mm film of some of it, if I could find it. Up and close, they are huge, mean looking, but graceful...

I know where that ones nest is. I happened to kayak about 10 yards from the base of his tree about 2 weeks ago while he was on perch

Yep.... Got close enough that I got nervous about the way the eagle was lookin at me. I could see it trying to sink its claws in my scalp, but I didnt have a parka. Just a straw hat, and I bet that would not ptotect your head too much.....

And then there was another time... History does not include the true and remarkable climax of the Gunnison Expedition down the Colorado. To make the story short, we had completed the third day and beached the only remaining raft on a sand bar to try and get some much needed rest. We were all cold, wet, tired, hungry and sleepy. The white water had taken its toll on our physical and mental stability. All the remaining party were as close to death as a person could be and still be breathing. Still, we had to make our headway down stream and face the challenges of the upcoming whitewater. As we set out that last morning, the final chapter of this historical event was written. However, the truth of the final day was never reported. As we were crashing through the roughest of the rough whitewater, speeding along at a pace never recorded before, facing sudden death, with the front of the makeshift raft diving under water as each second passed and seemed like an eternity, out of the sky came two of the most beautiful majestic bald eagles a person could ever imagine. One on each side of the raft, they hooked their long and strong claws into the front of the raft and lifted up up out of the rapids and gently eased up down on the banks of Lake Mead. And that, my friends, is the truth... As I see it..
