Hey guys these little store are struggling for our convenience..... We had two of them close in the last two months close to us on Martin. They just don't have enough business in the winter months. Now we have to drive an extra 20 minutes outa way to get minnows. One store I go to now if the owners is not there the help will not count the minnows. I purchased 5 dozen minnows 2 trips ago and when I opened my bucket to fish I had closer to a hundred minnows. Plan to report it to owner next time he is in there because he is charging only 1.25 a dozen. He can't be making money with employees like that. Don't know what started this thread but if you have your closest stores close it will make you wish they hadn't......

You are correct, I dont have a store between me and where I fish most of the time. Its way out of the way for me so I just keep a tank at the house. I am as guilty as anyone about not buying anything but bait as I normally have everything I will need at the house. Dont think there is one around Enid anymore, is some around Grenada but less than what is was last spring. Lakeway here started counting and selling by 10s but they also will sell by the pound so a pound is how I buy when I get bait there. Using live bait aint cheap and is an ongoing expense that I am having to get used to.

I couldn't believe that new lady at Q&M Friday night. She gave me over 200 minners when I asked for 100. I bout fell out when she said That's 80 n there was 150 in the bucket.

Y'all make me feel fortunate in one regard. I have a favorite store just around the corner from me and I don't think I've ever been by that they were not open. Also pass 3 more stores that sells minnows on the way to the lake, so if they were to not be open, I got 3 more chances at minnows are other stuff. All of them are Mom and Pop stores and I know they can't compete with the big box stores on some prices, but Walmart don't call me by name when I walk in not do they tell me where the fish have been biting.
Now the problem is when I get there the fish won't bite, so the minnows are kinda a moot point.

Totally agree with you BAMA. But here's what I don't understand. The store in question, says they open at 6am. I usually drive by there heading to the lake about that time, sometimes a few minutes earlier, sometimes a few minutes later. With the sunrise time being what it is right now, the last few times I have been by there at 6am or a few minutes after and the store is dark and closed. I used to buy minnows from them, but got tired of waiting in the parking lot for them to show up and open the store. This has been going on for several years now. I like to be on the water at daylight, not sitting in a parking lot waiting for someone to open their store. If they would open about 30 minutes before daylight I would stop there every time and buy minnows and breakfast. Instead a buy my minnows a pound or two at a time and keep them here at home. I have to drive about 60 miles round trip to get the minnows, so I am not saving any money there, but it's more "convenient". And if I want a biscuit for breakfast I stop at the McDonalds right there at the exit off the interstate, again "convenient". So if they are struggling so bad, why wouldn't they be doing everything they can to survive? It looks to me like they are making their own bed.

Every store ought to sell em by the pound. You get a fair count that way and the store also gets a fair count. I despise a store that counts every minnow. The more they are handled, the more likely they are to die on ya. Even in cool weather.

we got a goober here in L'ville, that counts out minnows one by one, actually puting each minnow in his hand. I roll my eyes and ask him if he can sell them by the pound every time just to mess with him.
