anybody have much success with this? I remember seeing one style of cork for this that performed almost like a planner board. i don't know if it was a gimmick or not, i'm thinking this style of feeshn might provide better hookups when fish hit hard in shallow water. Any ideas or suggestions?

Lots of folks use corks while spider rigging when the water is rough and causing the boat to rise and fall a lot.

We do that a good bit actually. With a little slack in your line I feel that the fish will have a second longer to swallow the hook, especially when they're light biting. I use them a good bit when it's windy and my rod tips are bouncing up and down to my as well. Keeps the minner stiller. I use these corks.
They have a spring on one end and you can get them in sizes big enough to where you can have a 1/2 oz weight on them and they'll still float. I like to match my corks size with the weight I have on. I want it to be just a big enough float where it still floats. They stand straight up but when a fish takes it up on a bite, the corks will lay flat so you know you're got a bite.

Feesh, I have seen a guy on Butla a couple times using those corks your talking about. They look about 6-8 in long and also saw them on a YouTube video if I recall correctly. They can be set like you said to be run like a plainer board. They guy I saw on Butla had his outside poles pulling out to the side quite a bit. And the rest running in front of the boat.

I use a cork that'll hold up a 1/2 weight in the wind when I pull chains. It keeps the bait in the strike zone much longer by dragging the cork back instead of jerking a tight line up and down with the waves. It only works when you're fishing shallower than the rod is long. I attach the float on the clip at the bottom of the float at the depth I need it. Slip corks don't work for this. I learned this technique at Reelfoot from Ronnie and Steve.

Just never saw an advantage to pushing corks, just an extra expence and more rigging. I love using them to cast a jig.
