I wish I knew. I caught most of my fish in 20+fow pulling cranks at 10-12 feet. Go figure.

OK guys and Gals....I've read where the fish caught(for the winners) at the MSFJ tourny was in 5 FOW....also, got a report where the are catchn em in 5 FOW in the pads at Horseshoe (Ark). and a few other oxbows in the area...
I thought they was supposed to be deep this time of year......What makes some of the crappie want to be suspended in 20-30 FOW and others in 5 FOW.........Are they in shallows early, then go deeper.
Just thought I might get some you expert/experienced fishermen's thoughts.
Thanks!

Yes major... I was there on tuesday and it was the same for me... Just curious to what makes the fish so scattered, when i thought they should be in deeper water when it is this hot....guess thats why they call it "fishn"

I'm guessing here, but maybe something to do with warmer water promotes algea and plankton growth better than cooler water, attracting more baitfish. Add nearby deep water, timber/shade and some hungry fish?!?!?? Just because they feed there, don't mean they live there. I caught 2 early yesterday on a crank running about 7' deep, but floated when put in the livewell. I'm guessing they ran up from considerably deeper water?
I'm just learning ,but what about the rain . I know it cools the top couple feet . surface at the rez went from around 95 to low to mid 80's with this rain . I just wonder .
CATCH THEM ALL.
Still catching lots of fish relatively shallow here in Ga too. For several weeks I've been pulling jigs very near the bottom in water 8'-12' deep. Reason the fish are there is because the bait is there. Our surface temps have been @ 82*-85* at first light for several weeks now.
