    Man thats bad luck hate it for ya. Just my opinion but it looks like to me that the welds may gotten to hot when it was welded. Really gotta know what your doin with aluminum. If it gets too hot it makes the metal crystalize and get very brittle hence the breakage. Think you got the right idea of taking some of the aluminum out and kinda rebuilding it just make sure whoever is welding it they dont have the machine too hot. Aluminum alot harded to weld and do it right than regular or mild steel, lot more brittle.

    Fixed it... Was able to weld a aluminum plate on top, move the motor back so I could get all six holes tapped, upgraded to some 5/16 bolts, used locktight and lock nuts... Then put stabilizer ram mount on trolling motor shaft... Hopefully this works for the long haul
