They drive the piles and build the dock in between them. The dock has rings attached to it that go around the piles. The rings slide up and down the piles as the dock floats up and down.

Some have two "stiff arms" that are attached to the shore on one end and a hinge on the dock at the other end.

All I can say is wow! looks like some folks got up on the wrong side of the bed. Come on guys....I see no big deal here.....we are all friends.

Yea, your right, I guess I'm thinking more on the line of a dock on a river.
That has to deal with current.
