I use a 4.5 hp kicker and Sat uses a 6hp kicker. I can run all day 12hours and longer with no problems. I set the speed on my kicker and set the terrova where it will move the bow left or right usually on 2.

Another option until you get to that point is to do like I did last year and it worked like a charm. I had an old hand control TM that I just hooked on the transmon out of the way of the Merc. Used it just like a kicker, did have to put my tractor batt in the boat but I was getting 8 hours easy out of a 55 pound thrust Minn Kota V2 going this route. The hand control would eventually run out of juice but I would still have alot of life left in the V2 to finish the day.

I've only done it once. Set auto pilot to direction you want and "cruise control" to 1.0 and put the outboard in gear. Seemed to work ok, but my batteries were almost dead when I started this experiment.
As for your batteries not lasting all day, mine do the same thing. Sometimes they last all day; others as little as 6 hours. I don't understand how some guys can troll all day and only use 20% if their batteries!

I had to set mine at about 3 when I used it to control my direction. My boat is a big heavy boat though and it is only an 80# trolling motor.

Thanks...My Predator weighs 1400lbs...gonna give 2 or 3 a try and use my main and troll about 3 hours, then turn off the main motor and see if I can get 4 or 5 more hours out of the TM by itself.
