Default Trolling using kicker and terrova to steer?

Does anyone use a kicker/or mainmotor for speed and use their terrova to steer? If so, was wondering do you just set the terrova on a certain # (say 2 or 3) and leave it? I'm assuming that you can't set the cruise control as it would try to maintain speed.

Any suggestions would be appreciatied. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get 8 to 9 hours outta my batteries, without taking spares. Last time I trolled, i got like 5 1/2 hours outta the terrova, which ain't bad.....I guess.

The Batterys are Fish Finders....I had BRM look at em (as all this trolling stuff is quite new to me) I can't remember the sizes something like 27 series, heavy duty....Forgive me if this sounds like I don't know.....cause I don't , but the trolling motor is the terrova Ipilot V2 80/45.....BRM told me that 5 to 6 hours was good for those batteries though

Do you just set the trolling motor on a particular number? Whats the lowest you can put in on and still steer?

Sat and Torch do it as well and both like it.
Here's my thoughts, you already have the Terrova in place, replace the batts with the US Battery 12v cart batts and I bet you will get the run time you are wanting. PM Double Gobble he done a tone of research on this and BRM is running those batts as well. Fixxin to get a 101 and 3 of those batts myself

I believe BRM did mention that to me. But I would like to go ahead and use these batteries for a few years and try to my moneys worth out of em.....Of course I could put them on my smaller boat..Now thats an idea. I guess when you say Cart batteries, these are the golf cart batteries BRM spoke about?

Yep and they are the bomb when it comes to batts. They arent cheap but cheaper than adding a kicker if you dont already have one.
